In more than 100 years of Florida high school football history, no quarterback had ever thrown for over 600 yards in a game until
Tucker Israel of
Lake Nona (Orlando, Fla.) did it on Oct. 17.
On Friday, Israel did it again.
In a 73-22 win over Celebration (Fla.), Israel completed 30 of 38 passes for 630 yards and nine touchdowns.
Deondre Farrier caught 13 of those passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns, while
Ulice Gillard caught three passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Lake Nona also had 163 yards rushing and finished with 793 yards of total offense.
Israel is just the third quarterback in national history to throw for over 600 yards in a game twice. Ryan Radcliff of Fairview (Sherwood, Ohio) threw for 678 yards as a junior in 2006 and 650 as a senior in 2007.
Connor Mitch of Wakefield (Raleigh, N.C.) threw for over 600 yards during his senior season in 2012, throwing for 667 yards in the 10th game of the season and 643 in the 13th game of the season.
Thus Israel becomes the first high school quarterback in national history to ever throw for over 600 yards in back-to-back games.
Israel also becomes just the third quarterback in national history to ever throw 10, nine and eight touchdowns in a game. Israel threw 10 touchdown passes in a game as a freshman and had eight touchdown passes last week when he set the Florida state record with 659 yards passing against St. Cloud.
Will Grier of Davidson Day (N.C.) also achieved the feat, throwing 10 as a junior and nine and eight as a senior. Thomas Thrash of Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) threw 10, nine and eight touchdown passes in a game all during his senior season in 2001.
For the season, Israel has completed 218 of 321 passes for 3,097 yards and 39 touchdowns.
