Northwestern had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Irmo Yellow Jackets 55-13. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by 20 points or more this season.
Xavier Means had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 60 yards and four touchdowns, while also throwing for 186 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 157.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September. Another player making a difference was David Flood, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one score.
Northwestern didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Irmo to a completion percentage of just 42.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Jeremiah Cannon and Jaylon Richardson, who each logged one passes deflected. Northwestern wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 77.8%.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Northwestern, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kameron Vance, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Irmo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amire White, who rushed for 116 yards on only 14 carries. White's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 112 rushing yards.
Northwestern pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points over those games. As for Irmo, they moved to 12-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Northwestern nor the Yellow Jackets have any future games scheduled.
