The Segerstrom Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Garden Grove Argonauts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Segerstrom is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Segerstrom's strategy against Katella on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Segerstrom blew Katella out of the water with a 64-0 final score. Given Segerstrom's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 375th, while Katella is ranked 835th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Segerstrom's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Diaz, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also caught a touchdown. Jesse Lopez was another key contributor, throwing for 93 yards and four touchdowns.
Segerstrom's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Gilbert Peralta and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Garden Grove's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marina. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Garden Grove was outscored by Marina in the second.
Segerstrom's victory lifted them to 5-3 while Garden Grove's defeat dropped them down to 2-6.
Segerstrom came up short against Garden Grove when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 31-23. Thankfully for Segerstrom, Malachi Bey (who rushed for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
