Owatonna is 9-1 against Winona since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Owatonna Huskies will be home for the holidays to greet the Winona Winhawks at 7:30 p.m. Owatonna has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Owatonna has not done well against Austin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Owatonna walked away with a 67-59 victory over Austin. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Owatonna's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Olson, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Abigial P Shornock was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Winona scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Albert Lea 78-48 at home. Given Winona's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Albert Lea is ranked 378th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owatonna's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Winona, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Owatonna came up short against Winona in their previous meeting back in February, falling 66-58. Can Owatonna avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
