Mullen has been on the road for four straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Friday, Mullen was the victim of a tough 71-45 loss at the hands of Smoky Hill. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mullen has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 65-50 to Eaglecrest, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Cherokee Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Eaglecrest is ranked eighth).
Cherokee Trail's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alonzo Rodgers, who scored 15 points, and Nathan Baack who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Naode Ghide, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Mullen's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Cherokee Trail, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Mullen came up short against Cherokee Trail in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 70-59. Can Mullen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
