West Shamokin is a perfect 10-0 against Purchase Line since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. West Shamokin will host Purchase Line at 4:30 p.m. West Shamokin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
West Shamokin's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Tuesday, when they got past Conemaugh Valley's usually-dominant pitching crew. West Shamokin was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Conemaugh Valley. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Wolves this season.
Max Long was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Long was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, West Shamokin let Ben McConnell and Luke McCullough run wild. McConnell scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while McCullough scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits McCullough has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Shoop, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
West Shamokin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conemaugh Valley only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Purchase Line was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blacklick Valley.
Purchase Line saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coby Byers, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run was Byers' first of the season. Devlan Kordish was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
West Shamokin's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2. As for Purchase Line, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
West Shamokin's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. West Shamokin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Purchase Line, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West Shamokin continue to outrun the ball?
West Shamokin took their victory against Purchase Line in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Does West Shamokin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Purchase Line turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
