V Section III recap Sept. 26, 2012
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 11th to seventh in V Section III. The Lions beat Bisbee 27-13 earlier in the week.
Morenci extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Round Valley, 35-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Frithsen threw for 128 and two touchdowns and Taylor Fitzgerald had 68 yards receiving. On the ground Fitzgerald chipped in 117 yards. Ben Walker helped Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Troy Cropp's team's Frithsen and Parker Gotcher have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Frithsen has thrown for 637 yards this season, while Gotcher, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 12 catches for 179 yards. San Manuel's John Ruiz leads the league in rushing yards with 529.
A big matchup in V Section III this week will be when the Miners take on Benson. As it stands, San Manuel is in fourth, while the Bobcats are in sixth.
Thatcher took down Cobre 63-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
