Softball Recap: Kelso Wins Going Away Against Evergreen

Kelso never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Evergreen on Friday. They put the hurt on the Plainsmen with a sharp 13-0 win. With that victory, the Hilanders brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Paityn Mackin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Kylie Killett looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Skylar Richie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalli Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Kelso always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kelso is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Evergreen, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Evergreen has already played their next contest (against Mountain View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kelso will be paying especially close attention to the Plainsmen's game: after the Plainsmen face off against Prairie, they'll take on Kelso again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
