The Jasper Bulldogs fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Silsbee Tigers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 21-20 to the Tigers. Jasper's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Jasper lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyanthony Smith. Despite the final result, he rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry.
Silsbee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michael Moshier led the charge by rushing for 11 yards and two touchdowns. Raydrian Baltrip did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards.
Silsbee's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In that department, Garry White was the leader with two sacks.
Jasper's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Silsbee, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Jasper will take on Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Jasper is ranked 178th). As for Silsbee, they will be playing at home against Sealy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sealy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
