The Elmira Express lost to the Ithaca Little Red back in February of 2023, but the Elmira Express didn't allow the Ithaca Little Red the same satisfaction on Thursday. Elmira simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ithaca 58-29 on the road. That 58-29 margin sets a new team best for Elmira this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elmira to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mariah Matias, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Matias has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellie Clearwater, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Elmira now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Ithaca, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elmira will take on Horseheads at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ithaca, they will head out on the road to face off against Corning-Painted Post at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Corning-Painted Post is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
