I Sunset - Southwest recap Oct. 16, 2012
Cimarron-Memorial was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after losing to Centennial. The Spartans came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Bishop Gorman extended the longest winning streak in I Sunset - Southwest this week by beating Bonanza, 56-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Bishop Gorman's dynamic duo of Anu Solomon and Jamir Tillman proved tough for the Bengals to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Solomon threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns and Tillman had 106 yards receiving. Nathan Starks helped Bishop Gorman's passing attack out by catching one ball for 61 yards.
Charles Julian was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 212 yards on 26 carries as Legacy beat Bonanza. Isaiah Purdy also contributed to the rushing game with 88 yards on the ground.
The Gaels' Solomon and Ryan Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Solomon has thrown for 1567 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 23 catches for 513 yards. The Longhorns' Julian leads the league in rushing yards with 1162.
The marquee game in I Sunset - Southwest this week will be the clash between Bishop Gorman and the Bulldogs. The Gaels enters the contest ranked first in the state, while Centennial ranks fourth.
Justin Davis of the Cimarron-Memorial is only 100 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Davis has rushed for 900 yards on 129 carries so far this year.
There should be lots of points scored when Bishop Gorman and Leon Evans' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Gaels comes in having scored 336 this season, while the Bulldogs have scored 274. Bishop Gorman scored 56 points last week as it topped Chad A. Dobar's team.
