The Stevens Falcons had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Taft by a score of 66-57 on Friday. Given Stevens' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Taft is ranked 576th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elijah Bustos was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 11 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Guerra, who scored 11 points.
Stevens' win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Taft, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Stevens will be playing at home against Brennan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brennan will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. As for Taft, they will head out on the road to face off against Sotomayor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sotomayor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
