After a string of four wins, Churchill County's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 64-49 bruising from the South Tahoe Vikings. The Greenwave were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Greenwave players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braden Sorensen, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Hyde, who posted six points and three steals.
Ronan Fisher was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 18 boards for South Tahoe. The dominant performance also gave Fisher a new career-high in assists (five). Oscar Mendoza was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.
Churchill County's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2. As for South Tahoe, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Churchill County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 82-62 win against North Valleys on the 20th. As for South Tahoe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-42 victory against Quincy on the 19th.
