The Coronado Islanders will take on the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Coronado has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Coronado's offense. They fell just short of Mission Bay by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Islanders have lost by exactly two runs.
Quinn Smock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
Meanwhile, Morse came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 14-5 win. Considering the Tigers have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Okita was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Reylyn Sakamoto, who went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Morse was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Coronado's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9-1. As for Morse, their victory bumped their record up to 17-9.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coronado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coronado skirted past Morse 5-4 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Islanders repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
