The Hughes Lions's game back in December of 2023 was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They skirted past Wayne County 48-45. That's another feather in the cap for Hughes, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Wayne County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Justice Bell, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Cooper Shamer was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight steals.
Hughes pushed their record up to 8-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Wayne County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-6.
Hughes will head out on the road to face off against Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wayne County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Richland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
