6A District 15 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Stranahan, who took down 277th ranked Stranahan, 21-13. Brandon Vicens threw for 70 yards and ran for 117 yards in the win.
Fort Lauderdale was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in 6A District 15. Earlier in the week, the Flying L's triumphed over Hollywood Hills 14-6.
Archbishop McCarthy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Paul Boy helped Archbishop McCarthy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 28 yards.
Justin Thomas was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mavericks beat the Mighty Dragons. Thomas racked up one reception for 35 yards.
Archbishop McCarthy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mavericks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Vicens has thrown for 231 yards and one touchdown this season, while Frantz Petitpapa has 12 catches for 167 yards. Vicens also leads the league in rushing with 322 yards.
A big matchup in 6A District 15 this week will be when the Spartans take on Stranahan. As it stands, Hollywood Hills is in fifth, while Rod Taplin's team is in third.
Archbishop McCarthy moved up to 276 from 338 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Byron Walker's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 21-13 win over the Mighty Dragons.
