Grimsley stacked a ninth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They didn't even let Page onto the board and left with a 54-0 victory. Given Grimsley's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked third, while Page is ranked 110th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grimsley relied on the efforts of Faizon Brandon, who threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and Mitchell Summers, who rushed for 114 yards and five touchdowns on only nine carries. Summers hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for eight straight games. Alex Taylor also helped out with an impressive 95 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Northern Guilford gave up the first points last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Western Guilford 42-14 at home. Northern Guilford pushed the score to 35-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Western Guilford cut but never quite recovered from.
Dwight Hall was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 203 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Hall was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Mcinnis, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Grimsley's win was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 41.11 points. As for Northern Guilford, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Grimsley against Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 56-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grimsley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
