The Katella Knights will take on the Garden Grove Argonauts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Katella comes in on seven and Garden Grove on three.
Katella will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Ocean View, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Katella was the clear victor by a 62-40 margin over Ocean View on Friday. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Katella's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesus Jaramillo, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Jaramillo continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Montejo, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Garden Grove posted their biggest victory since November 19, 2024 last Saturday. They put the hurt on Tarbut V' Torah with a sharp 70-44 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-17.
Katella better keep an eye on Neiman Quach. He was instrumental in Garden Grove's win, putting up 14 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Quach a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drue Anzai, who put up 12 points.
Garden Grove is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Katella, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Katella and Garden Grove are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Katella hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.5 points per game. However, it's not like Garden Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Katella came up short against Garden Grove in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 53-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Quach, who had 20 points and six rebounds. Now that Katella knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
