The Byers Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Crowley County Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Byers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Byers had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Front Range Christian on Monday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Falcons. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaden Bennett made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Byers' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Bennett was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chas Butterfield, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Gabe Price was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Crowley County and Fowler meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Chargers came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 12-5. The Chargers haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Like Byers, Crowley County also got a great game from a two-way player: Tritt Buhr. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Buhr gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Derreck Buford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
The win got Byers back to even at 8-8. As for Crowley County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Byers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crowley County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Byers took their victory against Crowley County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
