St. Joseph Regional and Don Bosco Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Green Knights will host the Ironmen at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (St. Joseph Regional 11, Don Bosco Prep 11) so any points scored will be well earned.
St. Joseph Regional is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Jersey's top teams: St. Peter's Prep, who was ranked third at the time (St. Joseph Regional was ranked fifth). The Green Knights and the Marauders were almost perfectly matched up last Saturday, but the Green Knights suffered a 29-28 loss. Even though they lost, the Green Knights' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 26 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite the defeat, St. Joseph Regional had strong showings from Kyshawn Bryant, who rushed for 29 yards and three TDs, and Stalin Knowlden, who picked up 109 receiving yards. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 56 yards.
Meanwhile, Don Bosco Prep strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They really took it to DePaul Catholic for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-15 win. That looming 47-15 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Ironmen yet this season.
St. Joseph Regional better focus on containing Isaiah Alvarez and Ca'si Thomas as the pair were huge in Don Bosco Prep's win. Alvarez picked up 158 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Thomas rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Those 158 receiving yards gave Alvarez a new career-high.
One reason for the win was Don Bosco Prep's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Mikahi Allen and Gino Greco, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Don Bosco Prep's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for St. Joseph Regional, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
St. Joseph Regional came up short against Don Bosco Prep when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 35-28. Thankfully for the Green Knights, Deven Sisler (who threw for 252 yards and three TDs while completing 74.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 53 yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
