Basketball Recap: Axtell Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Axtell challenged Dundy County-Stratton on Saturday. The Axtell Wildcats received a blow as they fell 60-43 to the Dundy County-Stratton Tigers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Axtell still got an impressive performance from Jacob Halvorsen, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Halvorsen has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Cade Axtell was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Axtell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Axtell's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5. As for Dundy County-Stratton, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Axtell will challenge Kenesaw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dundy County-Stratton, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chase County at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
