Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Plainfield South duked it out with Plainfield North on Tuesday. The Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 51-50 to the Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 57-51 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Plainfield South lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Layla Lesure, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards. Lesure is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zahira Edwards, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points.

Plainfield South's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Plainfield North, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Plainfield South will head out to face off against Joliet West at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Plainfield North, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Oswego East at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
