The Mitchell Tigers pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 83-61 loss to Gering might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mitchell in their matchups with Gering: they've now lost five in a row.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Desmonde Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Waymond Banks, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Gering, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mitchell will square off against Kimball at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gering, they will head out on the road to face off against McCook at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gering has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 270 points over their last four matches.
