Council Grove is 2-7 against Riley County since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Council Grove Braves just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Riley County Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Council Grove is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Council Grove pushed their score all the way to 57 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Central Heights by a score of 59-57. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Council Grove in their matchups with Central Heights: they've now lost three in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Brycen Palmquist, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kolby Rose, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Riley County has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They managed a 58-53 win over Wabaunsee on Friday.
Council Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Riley County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.
Things could have been worse for Council Grove, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 48-34 loss to Riley County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Council Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
