The Herington Railroaders will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Wakefield Bombers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Herington beat Centre 39-28. The win was just what Herington needed coming off of a 47-20 loss in their prior matchup.
Leslyn Kremeier was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Herington's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Urbanek, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Wakefield came into Tuesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They strolled past Rural Vista [Hope/White City] with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 45-31. The win was just what Wakefield needed coming off of a 56-27 defeat in their prior match.
Paige Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Wakefield's points. Another player making a difference was Allison Adams, who scored nine points along with seven assists and four steals.
The win got Herington back to even at 7-7. As for Wakefield, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Herington have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wakefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Herington was able to grind out a solid win over Wakefield when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 50-38. Does Herington have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wakefield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
