Basketball Recap: Connor Reilly's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Smithfield over Toll Gate

North Smithfield lost against Toll Gate back in January of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The North Smithfield Northmen fell to the Toll Gate Titans 59-53. The Northmen's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

North Smithfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Reilly, who posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Drolet, who had 12 points.

Toll Gate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Healey out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Healey a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Damola Oremosu, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

North Smithfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Toll Gate, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Smithfield will venture away from home to challenge Prout at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Prout knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully North Smithfield likes a good challenge. As for Toll Gate, they will head out on the road to face off against Davies Career & Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Toll Gate is facing Davies Career & Tech at the right time seeing as Davies Career & Tech is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
