Cornerstone Charter is 9-1 against Leadership Academy since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cornerstone Charter Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Leadership Academy Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Cornerstone Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Cornerstone Charter fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Gilman on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 5-4. The contest marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Dylan Anderson put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Anderson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Anderson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Barbee, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Leadership Academy and Bethany Community, and Bethany Community kept the tradition alive. Leadership Academy fell just short of Bethany Community by a score of 11-9 on Friday. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Like Cornerstone Charter, Leadership Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Dillon Ketron. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ketron was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jafet Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-5. Clay Smith was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
Leadership Academy's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Cornerstone Charter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Cornerstone Charter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Leadership Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cornerstone Charter couldn't quite get it done against Leadership Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can Cornerstone Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
