The Pflugerville Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Troy Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pflugerville has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Saturday, Pflugerville didn't have quite enough to beat Vandegrift and fell 14-13.
Isabella Mendiola put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Mendiola was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kylie Jaccard and Taylor Christensen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jaccard went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Christensen went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Christensen has brought in this season. Jayden Harris was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Troy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Crandall.
Laney Bennett led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Amato, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Pflugerville's record is now 2-7. As for Troy, their record now sits at 2-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pflugerville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pflugerville suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Troy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
