The St. Francis Mariners will head out to face off against the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. Francis will be strutting in after a win while Brookfield Academy will be coming in after a loss.
St. Francis' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Milwaukee School of Languages with a sharp 8-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mariners as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Zach Perry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, St. Francis let Andrew Xolot and Kingston Liddell run wild. Xolot went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Liddell went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Liddell a new career-high. Isaiah Gutierrez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Brookfield Academy and St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, and St. John's Northwestern Military Academy kept the tradition alive. The Blue Knights fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 14-13 on Tuesday. The loss was the Blue Knights' first of the season.
Noah Thompson and Luis Torres stepped up to the plate in a big way. Thompson went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Torres went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Qureshi, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. Francis' record is now 3-5. As for Brookfield Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
St. Francis beat Brookfield Academy 7-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
