Softball Recap: Mariemont Takes a Loss

Mariemont couldn't beat Deer Park on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Warriors fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 9-8. Even though they lost, the Warriors' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Hallee VanVleet and Riley Tobergta did some serious damage despite the final result: VanVleet got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Tobergta got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were VanVleet's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Quiambo, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run.

Mariemont dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Deer Park, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.

While Mariemont had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
