For the first time this season, Lathrop will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to square off against the Pacheco Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lathrop's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Pacheco's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Wednesday, Lathrop didn't have quite enough to beat Edison and fell 5-4.
Tianna Gonzalez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Pacheco was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 19-9 to Madera South.
Sophia Lowery was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Daijah Young, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.
Pacheco's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lathrop, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 3-2-1.
Lathrop's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Pacheco, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lathrop continue to outrun the ball?
Lathrop got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Pacheco by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
