Basketball Recap: Isaiah Johnson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat King's Christian Academy

Atholton saw some tournament action on Saturday. They walked away with a 73-66 win over the King's Christian Academy Eagles.

Atholton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Johnson, who went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points along with eight steals and six assists. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Lyons, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 23 points.

King's Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cayden Williams, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points and six assists. Earl B. Edmonds was another key player, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten boards.

Atholton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for King's Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atholton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Marriotts Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on January 13, 2025. King's Christian Academy and IMG Academy will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. King's Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.9 points per game this season.
