Horizon is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 7:00 p.m. Horizon is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Horizon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 62-3 win over McClintock. With the Huskies ahead 41-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Horizon found their leader in freshman Dylan Brush, who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Brush really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. Another player making a difference was Johnny Issitt, who rushed for 77 yards and one TD.
Horizon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Horizon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of EJ Peeples and Jake Cash. Peeples got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep came up short against Campo Verde on Thursday and fell 30-17.
Horizon will have to keep a close watch on Gunnar Perry and Decker Haskins-Smith, a pair of players who had a big impact on Notre Dame Prep's prior game. Perry rushed for 80 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, while Haskins-Smith rushed for 105 yards. Haskins-Smith also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making seven total tackles and defending one pass.
Even if they lost, Notre Dame Prep's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Nate Jones was especially locked on to Campo Verde's QB and sacked him three times.
Notre Dame Prep's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Horizon, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Horizon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 261 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 221.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Horizon beat Notre Dame Prep 20-7 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saints turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
