Maple Valley/Enderlin extended the longest winning streak in A Region 1 this week by beating Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock, 24-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for Maple Valley/Enderlin.
Oakes suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 24-12 loss to Oakes. The Tornadoes had been ranked 18th, but fell to 31 following the defeat.
Stephen Quandt was the best wideout in the league this week as Oakes beat Kidder County co-op [Steele-Dawson/Tappen/Sterling]. Quandt tallied two receptions for 19 yards. Cole Ehrlin helped Oakes' passing attack out by catching two balls for 10 yards.
Dalton Magill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 39 carries, he ran for 215 yards as Greg Dobitz's team defeated the Pirates. Blake Hollingsworth also contributed to the rushing game with 34 yards on the ground.
Briton Bussman put up the best numbers through the air as Milnor/North Sargent topped Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg. He finished with three completions for 20 yards and one touchdown. Bussman's favorite target this week was Wyatt Mund, who caught one pass for eight yards.
Oakes' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bryce Meehl has thrown for 578 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Ehrlin has 23 catches for 301 yards. Magill leads the league in rushing with 420 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brett Kapaun's team takes on Northern Cass. Maple Valley/Enderlin is in first place, while the Jaguars are in third place.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bulldogs and the Tornadoes face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Milnor/North Sargent comes in having scored 117 this season, while Oakes has scored 98. Eric Olson's team scored 38 points last week as it bested the Patriots.
The Bulldogs were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Milnor/North Sargent beat Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg 38-20 earlier in the week.
