The Dwyer Panthers waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They walked away with a 67-58 victory over Wellington. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Dwyer had a senior duo take command as Jaelen Nelson dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds and Amari Nealy dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Nelson has scored at least 25% of Dwyer's points. Another player making a difference was Jaironn Speights, who scored 16 points.
Dwyer's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Wellington, their loss dropped their record down to 12-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dwyer will take on Martin County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Martin County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Dwyer is ranked 26th). As for Wellington, they will be playing at home against Royal Palm Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
