Buckhorn is 0-10 against Hazard since May of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Buckhorn has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Buckhorn is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Leslie County, falling 14-1.
Buckhorn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunner Gay, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Hazard not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 18-0). They never let Shelby Valley get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Tucker Napier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Hazard got a big performance out of Talon Goins, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Clint Davidson, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Hazard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Buckhorn's loss dropped their record down to 11-20. As for Hazard, they moved to 20-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Buckhorn suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Hazard when the teams last played back in April. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
