Saugerties had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They managed a 20-14 victory over the Wallkill Panthers. This was payback for the Sawyers, who suffered a 42-10 defeat the last time these two teams met.

When it comes to explaining why Wallkill lost, don't look at Connor Bleichner. Despite the final result, he picked up 137 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Bleichner didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
