The Claremont Wolfpack's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-45 loss at the hands of California. While losing is never fun, Claremont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1097th, while California is ranked 497th).
Claremont's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Douglass Johnson III, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson III has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Silas Mascarin, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Claremont bumped their record down to 5-16 with that loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for California, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.
Claremont's road trip will continue as they head out to face Compton at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th. Compton has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for California, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Segundo at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. El Segundo has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
