The De Kalb Bears have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Sulphur Bluff Bears at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for De Kalb, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 52-38 loss to Elysian Fields.
Sulphur Bluff has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 24 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Excel Christian Academy 66-36 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-15.
Matthew Overly was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with 5 assists and 5 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Sulphur Bluff's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Gunn, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 21 rebounds.
De Kalb now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Sulphur Bluff, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
De Kalb took their victory against Sulphur Bluff in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 84-63. Does De Kalb have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sulphur Bluff turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
