The Sanford-Fritch Eagles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 80-50 blowout they got on the road against Memphis. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sanford-Fritch also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Memphis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abel Villa, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Villa scored a full 26% of Memphis' points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Martin, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Sanford-Fritch pushed their record up to 10-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Memphis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-8.
Sanford-Fritch is on the road again on Friday and play against Groom at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. As for Memphis, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Vega at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th.
