Heppner earned some more postseason success in their contest on Saturday. They were fully in charge, breezing past Knappa 55-18.
The Mustangs got off to a slow start in their game last week against Warrenton, but they had no such trouble against Knappa as they cruised to a 44-point first half. Knappa countered with 12 points, leaving the score at 44-12 going into the half. The Heppner defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 6 and all but finishing the matchup.
junior Blake Wolters went supernova for the Mustangs as he rushed for 234 yards and five TDs on 29 carries. This was the first time Wolters has racked up 100+ rushing yards all year. Not surprisingly, Wolters' sharp performance also set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season. The Mustangs received some extra help from senior Jason Rea, whose 3-yard fumble return for touchdown in the first quarter made for one of the game's most unforgettable moments.
The win for the Mustangs kept them a perfect 12-0. The Loggers' overall record now falls to 9-3.
The Mustangs will take on Kennedy in each of the teams' fourth playoff contest next week. The stakes are high as those two teams are all in, each fighting to extend its postseason success. Knappa's playoff loss brings an end to their season.
