Oakmont moved up to 580 from 669 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Capital Valley. The Vikings were able to make the jump by beating Lincoln 44-43.
Oakmont and the Fighting Zebras played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Oakmont eventually emerging with a 44-43 victory. Taylor Laird threw for 193 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 43 yards in the win.
Tim Moore's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Caspian Hamric chipped in 145 yards. Namani Parker helped Oakmont's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.
Justin Holmes was the best wideout in the league this week as the Vikings topped Lincoln. Holmes tallied five receptions for 98 yards.
Oakmont's Laird and Holmes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Capital Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Laird has thrown for 883 yards this season, while Holmes, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 23 catches for 442 yards. Marcel Brown from Rio Linda leads the league in rushing with 630 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Del Campo takes on Casa Roble. The Cougars' offense has recorded 150 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Rams have permitted only 217 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bella Vista takes on the Knights. The Broncos are in fourth place, while Rio Linda is in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bella Vista takes on Michael Morris's team. Tom Ingles's team has allowed 90 points this season, while the Knights have given up 63.
The Vikings led the league in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on Ken Lowe's team. Laird in the win.
