For the second straight game, Pocatello will face off against Century. The Thunder are taking a road trip to square off against the Diamondbacks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pocatello has nine straight victories, Century has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
15 must be Pocatello's lucky number: they beat Century with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Thunder didn't even let the Diamondbacks on the board, marking the Thunder's second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Charlie Naylor and Sophie Campbell made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Naylor tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Campbell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Naylor went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Campbell earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Jakobi Nebeker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Ward, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pocatello was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Pocatello pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Century, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pocatello has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Century struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
