Football Recap: West Craven Skates Past North Johnston with Ease + How To Watch

West Craven extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 6-1. They breezed past the North Johnston Panthers to the tune of 52-16. That looming 52-16 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.

DJ Davis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 78 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, while also throwing for 141 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (156.3). Xavier Cuthbertson did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Craven was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

West Craven's defense stepped up as well, laying out Eli Williard six times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up 1.5 apiece. West Craven got some further help from Emmanuel Miller: he picked up 1.5 sacks and made 14 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

As for North Johnston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why North Johnston lost, don't look at Tyrece Hicks. Despite the final result, he rushed for 172 yards and two scores. Hicks was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards.

Coincidentally, West Craven and North Johnston will both be playing North Lenoir the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will host them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
