The Windham Whippets pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Fitch, falling 91-58. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (56), Windham still had to take the loss.
Windham's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Green, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks, and Malcolm Hunter who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Hunter scored a full 29.3% of Windham's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Windham were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fitch only racked up 19 assists.
Fitch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zander Timmerman, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Malakhi Sabb, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Windham's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Fitch, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Windham will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Griswold at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fitch won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wilton at 4:45 p.m. on December 23rd. Hopefully Wilton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday.
