The Tempe Buffaloes will take on the Combs Coyotes in a holiday battle at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Tempe's last matchup with Greenway could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Wednesday. The Buffaloes came up short against the Demons, falling 76-52. The Buffaloes have struggled against the Demons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Tempe saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Avery Murphy, who posted ten points along with five assists and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Tylann Hendrix Meadows was another key player, putting up 13 points.
Meanwhile, Combs entered their game against Dysart on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Coyotes might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Demons an easy 68-44 win.
The match pitted two dominant forwards against one another in Quinmetris Cunningham and Santiago Leyva. Leyva had a solid game and dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Meanwhile, Cunningham did his best for the losing side, shooting 50% from the field en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.
Tempe's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Combs, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Tempe hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.5 points per game. However, it's not like Combs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 55.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Tempe came up short against Combs in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 60-53. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
