Big Seven recap October 29, 2013
Holton added to the longest winning streak in Big Seven this week by beating Hayden, 31-14. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Santa Fe Trail fell to Baldwin 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Weston Gloss was a bright spot for the Chargers, as he threw for 56 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.
Andrew Rieschick provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Holton defeated the Wildcats.
Tyler Mundy was the best receiver in the league this week as Santa Fe Trail lost to the Bulldogs. Mundy racked up 4 receptions for 36 yards. Cody Vandevord helped Santa Fe Trail's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 15 yards.
Jayson Duncan's team's Gloss and Mundy led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Gloss has thrown for 1,229 yards this season, while Mundy has 53 catches for 808 yards. Brooks Barta's team's Brenden Hampton leads the league in rushing yards with 929.
Hampton of the the Wildcats is just 71 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 111 carries Hampton has put up 929 yards this year.
A big matchup in Big Seven this week will be when Hiawatha takes on Sabetha. The Red Hawks are in fifth place, while the Bluejays are in sixth place.
Atchison County made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,788 from 11,930. The improvement was the result of a 50-8 victory over the Tigers last week.
