The Albuquerque Academy Chargers will face off against the Capital Jaguars at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Albuquerque Academy earned a 14-10 win over Sandia Prep. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ann Shelton and Melissa Purcella made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Shelton didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Purcella pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Shelton scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Purcella fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most home runs Purcella has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Albuquerque Academy let Bella Swanson and Samantha Walker run wild. Swanson scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Walker went 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn Dominguez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Albuquerque Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They got six more hits than Sandia Prep's also-impressive total of 13.
Meanwhile, Capital entered their tilt with Santa Fe Indian on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Braves 10-3. Considering the Jaguars have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Isabella Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Ava Martinez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Cardenas, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maya Webb, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Capital pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Albuquerque Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
