The Mission Eagles will challenge the Palmview Lobos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Mission got the win against Roma by a conclusive 17-6. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Aleyda Reyes was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Flores, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple.
Mission kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roma only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Palmview posted their closest victory since March 1, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Mission Veterans Memorial 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Lobos in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Gabriela Garza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Alynna Gonzalez was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Mission is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. The victory got Palmview back to even at 5-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mission hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like Palmview struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mission came up short against Palmview in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 8-3. Will Mission have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
