East Side suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 14-13 loss to East Side. The Trojans had been ranked 17th, but fell to 28 following the defeat.
East Side extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating Greenwood, 14-13. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
McClain's dynamic duo of Rotavious Thurmond and Acaunya Brown proved tough for Williams Sullivan to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thurmond threw for 187 yards and four touchdowns and Brown had 163 yards receiving. Robert Jordan helped McClain's passing attack out by catching two balls for 24 yards.
Quadre Butler was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 170 yards as the Trojans defeated the Yellowjackets. Taquille Eatmon also contributed to the rushing game with 40 yards on the ground.
McClain's Thurmond and Brown have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Thurmond has thrown for 721 yards this season, while Brown, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has nine catches for 274 yards. Butler from East Side leads the league in rushing with 698 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Region 4 this week will be when the Trojans take on Leland. At the moment, East Side is in first, while the Cubs are in fourth.
The Trojans and the Bulldogs played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Trojans eventually emerging with a 14-13 victory. Butler in the win.
